New Logo

I've got a new logo. I think that it looks real nice. I bought it on Etsy. It's a premade logo so it's not an original but it'll be fine until I can afford to get something made for me that is more unique. But for $10, I think it's pretty great.

Latest Work

Here is what I did yesterday. I made another dress using the party dress pattern from Kotton Candy doll fashions. I just love this pattern. There are just so many possiblities with it. I went shopping on Friday and I found some purple cotton fabric that has silver sparkles in it. I thought that it would look great made up in the party dress pattern. And I was right! It looked great! I will eventually list this in Etsy so be on the lookout for it. I bought some cute little silver shoes to go with it. Today has been very cold and windy here in Texas. So Madyson's hair looks a little wind blown in the pictures. My next idea with this pattern is to make a dress that looks like something that a Texas girl would wear. I saw some cotton material at Hobby Lobby that had blue flowers with red in the middle and another piece that was a red bandana fabric. I'm going to make the bodice with the blue flowered material and the skirt with the red bandana fabric. I think that would look cute with some little cowgirl boots. So be on the lookout for that.

Grand Opening!

Today was the day that I opened my Etsy shop! I have worked really hard for the past three months making clothes for American Girl dolls and I have been hoping to open a shop on Etsy. And now I've finally done it! I have 9 items listed so far. I hope to have a few more. Here is the link to my shop. I hope that you will take a look around. Tell me what you think. http://www.etsy.com/shop/EverythingNice4Dolls

Swimsuit Weather

Swimsuit Weather

Swimsuit Weather

It's only March but I'm starting to think about swimsuit weather already. I finally got around to trying out my swimsuit pattern that I have from Liberty Jane. My first try at it did not turn out so well. I really don't know what I did wrong. But anyway, I was determined to master the swimsuit. I had some leftover material from when I made Emily a ice skating outfit so I used that and started over. The second time was much easier and I think it was because I knew what I was doing. I think that it turned out pretty cute.

Another Great Tutorial!

Madyson wearing her polka dot party dress and matching headband
Ok, I found another great tutorial from AGdollcrafts.com. This one is a headband tutorial. It is super easy to do and it only took me about 10 min. to make. At first, I wasn't exactly sure how it was going to turn out because I was thinking that the elastic was going to go all the way through the headband tube. But as I got into it, I realized that the elastic just helps hold the headband onto the doll's head. The tutorial was very easy to follow and I think that it would make a great project for a young girl who is learning to sew to do.

I am going to be offering the Polka Dot Party dress on my Etsy shop. Be looking for it soon!

Making Socks

Sock measured at 4 inches.
Today I made some socks for my daughter's American Girl doll using the tutorial that I found on Pinterest from agdollcrafts.com. I found that it was very easy to do. I did, however ,make one change. I used a 1/4 seam allowance rather than a 1/2 seam allowance. I found that the bigger seam allowance made the sock too tight to go on the doll's foot. I used a pair of women's white trouser socks that I bought from Walmart for $.97. I used the 4 inch measurement for ankle socks.

Today's Dress

I finished another dress that I will eventually put on Esty to sell. I think that this dress would make a very good Easter dress. I made it using the pattern that I got from Kotton Candy doll fashions. I just love this pattern because it is so cute! This time I made a little felt rose sewn onto her dress as a corsage.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Today is my birthday! I'm 51 and I feel wonderful! My sweet daughter and husband got me some great birthday presents. My daughter knows that I sew and she picked out this cute decorative dress form. She thought that I could use it when I make my clothes for my dolls. She didn't know however that this one is not sized to fit 18 inch dolls. But I love it anyway. I think that it's very pretty and it's very appropriate for what I do. She's only 10 so I think for a 10 year old, she has some very good taste. My husband got me the dvd of Breaking Dawn 1 & 2.

I'm going to go out in a little bit to Walmart to get myself a cake. A birthday is not complete without some cake!

Happy Spring Break!

Cute Lime Green Top

Well, today was the first day of our spring break from school. I had several projects going this weekend. I made a cute lime green pleated top from a pattern that I got from Kotton Candy doll fashions, finished up on some Janes shoes for an outfit, and I made a polka dot party dress. I also worked on getting my Etsy store up and running. I got 5 outfits listed. I'm not finished yet. I still have to go and get a checking account for my business. I just don't have enough time to do things like that when I'm working all day during the week so I'm glad that I have this week to get some things done. I've got another dress cut out and ready to sew and I'm going to cut out some denim fabric to make a pair of jeans.

Printer Problems

I have been having printer problems! I have a Brother HL-2270DW and for the last week or so I have not been able to print with it. We bought it last summer so it's not all that old. I have just been perplexed as to why it is not printing. I've tried everything and it still would not work. Well finally today I got on their online support page and after eliminating everything that could possibly be wrong, I figured out that maybe I needed to download a new driver. Well I did that, first I uninstalled the old one and then downloaded a new one. And low and behold it worked! I tried to print a page off and it printed! Yea! I'm so proud that I figured it out and fixed it myself! My printer is so important to me because without it, how can I print off all of those wonderful Liberty Jane patterns? Now I'm going to go to the Cutting Room forum and grab my freebie for the month!

Sewing with Knits

One of the things that I made this weekend was a cute little pajama outfit. I've made this pattern before but this time I used some different fabrics. Both of them were knit fabrics but the solid knit had a very different feel to it than the first one that I did. Knit fabrics can be a little difficult to work with, but by using just a few tips that I have learned, you can sew confidently with them too.

  • Use tissue paper or stabilizer- it will help keep the fabric from getting eaten up by the machine.
  • Use a stretch or ballpoint needle in your machine.
  • Sew knits with a serger
  • Don't stretch the fabric as you are sewing
These are just a few tips that I have learned. If you have any tips that you would like to share, feel free to comment.
